In planning for baby #3, I wasn’t quite sure where to put everyone. Older siblings together? Boys together? Finally I decided to let big sister keep her own room and put both boys together. We’ll know soon enough if this was the right decision but I am so excited about how the room came together!
Henry’s room was in sad shape and had long needed sprucing up. The paint was drab and the room was bare. I asked the fabulous Melissa Ballard to help me out. Best.decision.ever.
We decided on a light blue wall color and orange accents to complement the existing white and brown furniture. I loved her sketches from the get-go.
And here’s how the room came together…
This dresser is my favorite feature. It was Mark’s growing up and Melissa refinished it and hand painted this herringbone pattern with a gold paint pen.
I also love the photos in the room.
- The colorful vintage posters over the cribs are $5 prints from The Paper Source in frames from Hobby Lobby (50% off!).
- The tiny animals on playing cards are from Etsy. Melissa painted two existing frames gold and decoupaged a paper bag onto foam board for a backing.
- The Henry alphabet print is from MadebyGirl.
- And the adorable portrait of Henry was taken at Parents Day Out. Don’t you love the felt frame?
Melissa was amazing at making process budget-friendly. We reused an existing rug from Home Goods and kept all of the current furniture. The only thing we bought was another crib from Amazon to match Henry’s crib and a shelf from Home Depot.

Any idea what the color blue is?
LOVE this – and so nice that you could preserve something of your husband’s. It looks great! I’d love to showcase this on my blog next Tues in my DIY post – if that’s okay with you. I think it looks awsome! And hey, a little elbow grease, a gold paint pen and off to the races!

I am in LOVE with that dresser! I need to start stalking garage sales and thrift stores to find a dresser I can do that with. It looks amazing. Love the pops of orange in the room too. It looks fantastic!
How fantastic!! I LOVE everything you did. That dress redo is amazing!!
I love Henry’s and baby boy #2’s room very much! Great job on sprucing things up, now I’ve got to get started on Sofia’s room :)
Ooohhh I like it a lot! We’ve been called several times about different foster babies and although we haven’t gotten another one yet, I am always thinking in the back of my mind how I would do the rooms. If we get another little boy, I think I’d have them share a room. I love your furniture and decor. It’s definitely sophisticated yet still age appropriate! Great job!
Absolutely gorgeous! Such a beautiful space! Love all the arty work.
What a sweet little boys room! It’s perfect!
Oh, it’s just beautiful Stephanie. What a wonderful job she did. I just adore that herringbone pattern on the dresser. How clever is she? Also, that rug just fits in there perfectly. Can’t wait to see Caroline’s room.
