I’m pretty sure that 80% of my wardrobe comes from Target. It’s just so easy to pick up tank tops and T-shirts when I’m buying diapers and waffles (we eat a crazy amount of waffles). And Target Merona is always tempting because it nicely combines trends with classic pieces. In the first in a series of “how to style it” posts for Target, today we take on the pencil skirt.
Pencil skirts used to be a little drab and ugly. But a new generation of pencil skirts is now on the market, one that’s universally flattering, with a long and lean cut. One that comes in bright colors and fun prints. And at a great price, hurrah! Here are my tips on how to style the pencil skirt three different ways: for work, date night and weekend!
Work Style – total cost $96
Spice up a classic black pencil skirt with a snakeskin print blouse and heeled mary-janes. The red bag adds a pop of color.
Date Night – total cost $79
Date nights are my chance to dress up! So I go for something fun like an animal print pencil skirt. You can tone it down with a denim shirt, add some height with heeled ankle booties, and insert a bit of this fall’s color, burgundy, with a fab fringed clutch. Finish with long earrings to glam it up!
Weekend Casual – total cost $121
If it’s the weekend, go for colors! A yellow pencil skirt will look lovely with a printed top and colorful flats (I love these blue loafers!). Avoid wearing too many colors at once by combining with neutral gray pieces, like the jacket and crossbody bag, and don’t forget your favorite scarf in case the weather gets cooler.
Did you notice that the pencil skirt in these looks is the same one in different colors? For just $20? And there are six more colors to choose from!
