My skin is super dry – especially in winter – so my skincare routine focuses on moisturizing and hydration. And no matter how you feel about aging, it’s happening. Ugh. But I definitely don’t want my skin to age faster than I am. Time is flying by fast enough, thank you very much.

Hitting the mid-30s is a good skin wake-up call. The products I used became more important, and I started focusing on beauty from the inside out. I try to stay consistent but still keep things pretty simple.
Minimalist Skincare Rules:
Quit slacking on makeup removal
The majority of the makeup I wear is under eye concealer and mascara, and using a face wash is totally ineffective. A regular cleanser won’t remove all of the makeup and buildup on your skin, which leads to clogged pores and a dull complexion. So I added an extra step before cleansing to wipe off my makeup.
Make exfoliation your BFF
I used to think my dry skin just needed more moisturizer. I put on more and more and two things happened 1) my skin still felt dry and 2) I started to get more breakouts. Upping my exfoliation game has helped tremendously. Removing dead skin cells clears out the pores and helps maximize the absorption of the creams and serums you’re using to prevent dry skin. I use cleansing grains or a fruit acid face mask 2-3 times a week.
Combine face massage with serum
On the nights I don’t use a face mask, I use a jade roller to apply serum on my face and neck. Olay Regenerist Serum is a fragrance-free, lightweight gel that delivers moisturizing ingredients 10 layers deep into the skin surface. A couple of minutes of rolling helps the serum penetrate into the skin. It might sound silly but it feels really good, like a face massage. And that massaging helps drain the lymphatic system, reduce facial puffiness and promote collagen production.
Get a moisturizer with SPF
For my dry skin, Olay recommended the Regenerist Microsculpting Cream with moisturizing hyaluronic acid and antioxidants vitamin E and green-tea extract. It’s a heavy duty moisturizer great for nighttime. For daytime or if you don’t have time to layer serums and moisturizers, go for a multi-purpose one like Olay Total Effects that’s fragrance-free and has SPF 15.
Yes, you need an eye cream
I have long resisted using an eye cream. But to help prevent or smooth out crow’s feet, you need it. Especially if you sleep on your side or are prone to dark circles. The Olay skin tool recommended this eye cream that works on fine lines and wrinkles and has a bit of a tint to reduce the dreaded dark circles. Sometimes I forget or don’t have time in the morning, but I always apply before going to bed.
A silk pillow case will change your life
As someone prone to dark circles, I make sleep a priority. Your skin is busy while you sleep, repairing and generating skin cells. I use a silk pillowcase because it’s said to help prevent wrinkles (and it keeps my hair sane overnight). Getting a silk pillow case is definitely one of those ‘why didn’t I do this sooner?’ moments.
Add collagen to your water
When I slack on drinking water, I can feel it in my skin. The skin contains a lot of water so when you’re dehydrated your skin starts looking dry and dull. I’ve started mixing collagen supplements into the water bottle that goes with me everywhere. Collagen is really effective in helping your skin, hair and nails.
