Just like in the world of fashion, there are fads in skincare too. Today’s activated charcoal and sheet masks are yesterday’s apricot scrubs and Sea Breeze toner. And right now, it doesn’t get much trendier than snail slime.
Yes, snail slime!
The ingredients that make up this mucus secretion might surprise you; they’re ingredients that are actually quite common in many beauty products. Hyaluronic acid (a moisture-binding ingredient), glycolic acid (rapid exfoliator), and several different peptides and enzymes are found in snail secretions. The trend of snail slime skincare products found its start in Asia, specifically Korea and Japan, a few years ago.
The benefits range from cell regeneration and anti-aging to preventing acne and reducing scars. I had to sample the fad for myself and I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t as gross as it sounds. The results were soft, moisturized skin without any irritation.
Here are a few snail slime skincare products to try if you’d like to see for yourself:
MIZON All In One Snail Repair Cream // Korean brand MIZON has a full line of snail slime skincare products, but this is the most versatile. For an extra boost, pair it with their wrinkle care sleep pack at night.
ElishaCoy Snail Pulp Sheet Mask // If you don’t want to commit to a jar of moisturizer or serum, a sheet mask is the perfect way to give snail slime a try.
Cosrx Snail Mucin Essence // This snail slime essence is gently patted into the skin after toner and before serums or moisturizers.
Petitfee Gold & Snail Eye Gel Patches // These patches combine two popular Korean skincare trends: snail mucin and gold.
