Ingredients

  • 12-16 thick slices stale Brioche or Challah
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup half-and-half or whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon sugar or maple syrup
  • ½ teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • Pinch sea salt
  • For serving: butter and maple syrup sliced pears, fresh grated nutmeg, and thick cut bacon

Instructions

  • Preheat De'Longhi Livenza griddle to 400°F.
  • In a shallow dish or pie plate whisk together eggs, half-and-half, sugar or maple syrup, nutmeg, and pinch sea salt.
  • Working one at a time, dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, turning it over to coat both sides. Allow excess to drop off and back into the dish. Place on the griddle and cook on the first side for 2-3 minutes. Flip and cook on second side for another 2-3 minutes, or until heated through. Depending on the thickness of the bread, the cook time will differ slightly. Place French toast on a serving platter and keep warm. Repeat process until all slices are used.
  • To serve, place 1-2 slices on each plate and top with a little butter, maple syrup, sliced pears, and a sprinkle of freshly grated nutmeg. Serve with bacon on the side.
