Lemonade and summer are a match made in heaven and I can't get enough of it!
There's nothing like freshly squeezed lemonade with ice after running around all day at the beach or in the park, right? This body spray captures those memories and puts them in a bottle that you can take everywhere with you to relive summer everywhere you go.
Childhood memories and deliciousness aside, lemon is uplifting and refreshing for the body and mind. Exactly what we need on hot, hot days when it’s a marathon effort to walk around the block.
Now, while you can make a delicious lavender lemonade to drink on a hot summer's day, sometimes the smell is enough as a refreshing pick me up—here's how to make a zesty, rejuvenating body spray with this winning summer combination.
How to make a summer body spray
The scent is also invigorating. It’s amazing how a quick spritz and a deep inhale can be just the thing to pick me up out of a heat-induced slump. This body spray is great after swimming too, because the citrus oils seem to have some clever reaction that magically combats the smell of chlorine. Don't forget to pack this in your bag when you head to the pool—no one wants to smell like chlorine all day long!
It's also perfect as a body mist before heading out on a hot day—you'll spend all day smelling fresh and fragrant.
Supplies needed
- Orange flower water (or water to boil)
- Vodka
- Lemon, lavender and sandalwood essential oil
- Glass spray bottle (new or sterilized)
Lavender and sandalwood oils are soothing for frayed nerves and round out the fragrance, helping it linger a little longer. They're both super soothing and calming, giving your mood a little boost.
The alcohol is there to disperse the fragrance. Vodka is the purest drinking alcohol with very little fragrance of its own and therefore the best choice for perfume-making. Unfortunately, rubbing alcohol is too strong for the skin, so not a good choice in this recipe.
It's a good idea to keep some high quality vodka aside for any body spray recipe—you can basically use any combination of essential oils that you like to create your own custom fragrance!
Note: This DIY body spray is best used after being in the sun or on areas that will not be exposed, as some skin types may find the citrus oils increase their sensitivity to the sun. A little goes a long way and you'll be smelling fresh all day—I promise!
Before using, always give the bottle a good shake to mix everything evenly for a perfectly blended, fresh spray that smells just like summer.

What is the conversion (roughly) between drops and teaspoons or mL? I'm trying to figure out how much of the essential oils I should order for this recipe.

Ah beautiful DIY my friend! But I must ask, where ever did you acquire such a gorgeous bottle?

What is "orange flower water" and where do you get it/how do you make it?
Lindsey Johnson says
You can find it online or in Indian markets. Sometimes Williams-Sonoma and Whole Foods will have it too. It's similar to rose water - made with orange blossoms instead.
