A DIY zipper pouch makes a very handy and quick sew last minute gift! You can use a zipper pouch for storing jewelry, makeup, travel toiletries (perfect for visiting family over the holiday season) or even toys! And if you don't have a sewing machine, don't fret! Pouches are easy to hand sew.
DIY Zipper Pouch
Supplies
- Fat Quarter of Organic Cotton/Organic Linen Poplin*
- Fat Quarter of Organic Cotton Canvas
- Fat Quarter of Organic Cotton
- 10" Zipper

Instructions
Step 1
Cut two rectangles measuring 10.5 inches x 13 inches from the organic cotton (for lining); two rectangles measuring 6 inches x 13 inches from the organic cotton canvas and two rectangles measuring 5 inches x 13 inches from the organic cotton/linen poplin (for exterior). Sew together the canvas with the cotton/linen poplin with ½-inch seam allowance and press open. Trim exterior and interior rectangles so that the top narrows to 12 inches.
Step 2
Layer one interior piece face up, line up one edge of zipper and layer exterior piece right side facing down. Sew together stop and start at beginning and end of zipper. Fold these pieces of fabric out of the way and repeat for other edge of zipper.
Step 3
Holding zipper out of the way, and right sides of exterior facing, continue sewing all the way around. Repeat for lining leaving a gap along the bottom edge of the lining (for turning)
Step 4
Sew a line measuring 3 inches perpendicular to the bottom corners of the exerior and interior. Trim corner.
Step 5
Repeat for the top corners, but sew a line measuring 2 inches. Trim corners
Step 6
Turn zipper pouch right side out through gap in lining.
Step 7
Close gap in lining by top stitching or by hand.
